MYcroSchool Pinellas Recognizes Stellar Students

by Martina Green and Glenn Walker

MYcroSchool Pinellas student Shaquanda Maddox is always willing to do whatever is needed to assist both staff and students. She is also making great progress in her academic work. For these reasons, she has been chosen as the January Student of the Month.

Shaquanda attended the Martin Luther King, Jr., Breakfast on January 20, 2014. The breakfast was hosted by the Pinellas Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Council and took place at Sylvia’s Restaurant in St. Petersburg. Following the breakfast, she was notified that assistance was needed at the LIFE House Program Health Fair. She immediately agreed to come meet Ms. Faye and Principal Green. She volunteered at the Fair for five hours. Thank you to Shaquanda for making an extra effort at our school.

Another MYcroSchool Pinellas student to recognize is Lucas Sanchez. Lucas vigorously pursued a Pinellas Computers, a computer company in the area, to give him an internship. Following several phone calls and visits, they offered him a chance.

The company worked with Lucas around his schedule as full time student and his other part time job. Lucas has learned to service computers and laptops, perform upgrades, virus removal, network issues, and screen replacement.

Lucas said his motivation to take the internship came from his girlfriend. His relationship with her made him think about life and what he should for a living, by contributing to society in a meaningful way. Lucas said, “It’s a mature thing to get a head start on your career and it’s awesome to find something that you love to do.”

After several weeks of his internship, he was offered a full-time job. We want to recognize Lucas for his determination and perseverance.

Martina Green is the principal and Glenn Walker is an instructor at MYcroSchool Pinellas.
