MYcroSchool Jacksonville staff celebrate diversityMYcroSchool Jacksonville held a special event at PRIDE week. On one Sunday in October, MYcroSchool Jacksonville staff volunteered to celebrate diversity and spread the word about their new MYcroSchool Jacksonville charter high school at the PRIDE weekend festival in downtown Jacksonville. The event was held in Artist’s Square at the foot of the Fuller Warren Bridge.

This was a huge endeavor for MYcroSchool Jacksonville as the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) student-age population has the highest percentage of dropouts than any other minority group in Duval County.

MYcroSchool Jacksonville staff celebrate diversityThe River City Pride organization has an annual festival and we were very pleased to be part of this event.  We not only made contact with potential scholars for our Jacksonville campus, but also made contact with various LGBT organizations to further support this struggling demographic.

MYcroSchool Jacksonville staff networked with LGBT organizations from University of Florida and University of North Florida.  MYcroSchool Jacksonville was the only public school represented at the event intentionally encouraging students to enroll and get back in school.

MYcroSchool Jacksonville student ambassador Brooke Jones and her dadIn other MYcroSchool Jacksonville news, there is a new scholar ambassador for the A.M. session! Brooke Jones will wear a special MYcroSchool t-shirt on her scholar ambassador service days. (Brooke is pictured at right with her dad.)

Scholars chosen for this special program are trained on how to give tours, professional presentation and language, and their role in orientation.  The other student ambassador is Alexis Combs.

Our healthy classroom culture is very important and a school’s cultural balance can be easily tipped.  Brooke is a diligent worker with a great attendance record, and she often times speaks highly of our school.  She will help us maintain that balance by setting behavioral expectations for her peers as they enter the building for the first time.  Please congratulate Brooke on her PROMOTION!

Rachel Maldonado is the principal at MYcroSchool Jacksonville. More information on the school and other MYcroSchool campuses can be found athttp://www.mycroschool.org.
